ON TREND DESTINATIONS

Travel in getting a glow up. Industry brands and suppliers are stepping up, offering more access to more niche destinations, unique activities and quirky modes of transportation.

2026 DESTINATIONS

According to a recent survey by Travel Weekly, the average Brit is planning at least four holidays in 2026. As the UK’s confidence recovers after the pandemic, they will return to blending short- and long-haul holidays with domestic staycations.

Research also shows a notable shift from classic hot-spots towards undiscovered gems and eco-travel driving more diverse options.

on trend travel

Immersive experiences – for those seeking deeper connections to the destinations they are visiting, homestays offer authentic touchpoints with local families, producers, farmers and artists. Picture yourself picking fresh lemons from a Tuscan grove and learning to make limencello whilst soaking up the sun; or partaking in an authentic tea ceremony in Kanazawa, Japan

Conscious travel – no longer having to choose between comfort and conscience, this year is when these two worlds can meet. Suppliers can now deliver stays and experiences that combine high-end design, sustainability, and genuine community impact. Costa Rica, Sweden and the Azores provides best-practice including solar-powered accommodation, carbon offset programs and plastic-free resorts. Richard Branson’s cruise line Virgin Voyages operates a clear sustainable mission with many on-board initiatives supporting small communities and lessening ocean pollution.

Workations – (aka Bleisure) – will continue to attract all ages and demographics. From solo entrepreneurs to employed couples and families who can enjoy extended breaks by taking advantage of reliable Wi-Fi, cloud-based systems, and digital collaboration tools that make even the most remote locations a great base from which to work from. Far flung destinations like Bali, Thailand and Barbados prove popular, especially with families wanting to make the most of long summer or Christmas breaks.

Small-ship and river cruising – cruising in general has been steadily rising in popularity, becoming a mainstream holiday choice for families, multi-generations and even younger people. Right now, there is an emerging trend for smaller ships (and particularly river cruises) which making destinations with harder-to-reach nooks and crannies easier to explore. Alaska, the Fjords of Norway and the Antarctic lead the charge for exploring vast areas in one journey. Choosing a smaller vessel for such trips will get you even closer to once-in-a lifetime experiences.

and finally: some world-busting locations for 2026

  • Slovenia – visit Europe’s new eco-capital, a peaceful retreat with boutique lakeside stays.
  • Oman – luxury desert lodges and coastal adventures without the crowds.
  • Colombia – creative cities like Medellín and Cartagena are booming in popularity again.
  • Japan – try lesser-known regions of Kanazawa and Kyushu for authentic culture.
  • Albania – a Mediterranean beauty offering a cost-effective alternative half to Italy or Greece.
